Bastnasite(Ce) mineral information and data

Bastnasite (Ce) BastasiteCe is an uncommon mineral, but is the most common rare earth bearing mineral. It is usually a hydrothermal mineral although it is possible to be a primary mineral as well. It can be found in granite, alkali syenites and pegmatites, carbonatites, contact metamorphic deposits, and as a detrital mineral in placer deposits.

Most rareelement mineral deposits are associated with highly evolved igneous rocks, either with alkaline rocks (including carbonatites), or with peraluminous granites and pegmatites. In addition, there has been considerable debate on the relative contributions of magmatic and hydrothermal processes to the mineralizing events in both environments.

Abstract. The principal rare earth elementminerals associated with carbonatites are fluocarbonates (bastnäsite, parisite, and synchysite), hydrated carbonates (ancylite), and phosphates (monazite) with bastnäsite being the primary ore mineral. Calcite and dolomite are the primary gangue minerals.

Rare earth element (REE) orebodies are typically associated with alkaline igneous rocks or develop as placer or laterite deposits. Here, we describe an economically important heavy (H)REE mineralization type that is entirely hydrothermal in origin with no demonstrable links to magmatism. The mineralization occurs as numerous xenotimerich vein and breccia orebodies across a large area of ...

China stands for a disproportionately large amount of the world's rare earth production. For certain elements such as dysprosium and andterbium, China accounts for 99% of world production and can use this advantage in political negotiations by expanding, but mostly, contracting supply to trade partners.
